Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Obviously everyone will immediately think ‘Oh no! Not more water!’
And no, not necessarily.
More fluid intake will help keep vital organs and the rest of your body hydrated, keeping you in a better condition to deal with whatever life throws at us.

It doesn’t have to be just water. Think about the cups of tea, coffee, squash, fruit juice etc you also drink through the day. They all contain water and, although tea and coffee contain caffeine, they aren’t too bad as long as you don’t drink copious quantities.

My Lifesaver: 1 really good cup of coffee from my favourite café, Havanas Coffee, in the morning, rather than lots of cups of instant coffee throughout the day and I don’t feel cheated of my caffeine buzz.

And obviously hydration doesn’t end there….

You need to hydrate from the outside as well as the inside to ensure you have that Summer glow.

With the beauty world starting to embrace the natural options so much more in recent months, there are oodles of choices of skin and body care products to choose from.

We offer a fantastic CACI Hydration mask which is available to buy to use at home or why not treat yourself to a hydrating facial?
CACI is so versatile and can also offer muscle toning as well as exfoliation treatments and include the Hydration mask too.

Tip: Put your silicone or sheet masks in the fridge for a while before applying during the summer months to really cool you down and help with your natural glow.

Look out for Natura Sheet Masks, who offer a fantastic range including Avocado infused anti-ageing mask, Multi Grain infused mask for plumping & firming & Turmeric infused mask for Radiating & Cell Renewing.

Local Skincare Company Monu Cosmetics offer a fabulous Rose & Lemon Enriched Body Cream.
Top Tip: Don’t forget for best results from your face or body moisturiser you should scrub away those dead skin cells 1st. This allows the moisturiser to absorb into the skin more easily rather than sitting on top of the layers of dead skin cells.

Another local producer is Alani Aroma, who offers the most wonderful balms and oils to soothe dry skin and are all created by qualified aromatherapist, Kerry Baxter, who blends sumptuous aromas to do more than just nourish.

Lips… we don’t often think about them until we realise they are dry, cracked and sore.
Such a fundamental part of our faces that get a lot of use and not much care.
If you have dry lips try gently exfoliating them with a facial scrub (don’t go mad as it will make them sore) or you can buy lip balms with scrub elements already in them.

Then apply a lip balm to nourish.
Tip: If your lips are super dry then apply a thicker layer of balm and leave on like you would a face mask. In fact do this whilst you have your sheet mask on at the same time. Save time looking gorgeous.

Alcohol – it has to be mentioned… with the summery days and evenings upon us (fingers crossed) we are all inclined to drink a few extra G&T’s whilst in the sun.
You don’t need to forfeit your favourite tipple but consider how many you are actually drinking, especially with home measures being a little more generous than bar measures.
Top tip: Have a glass of iced water with you too, alternate your sips or ensure you have drunk all the water between each alcoholic drink. This will reduce the amount you drink and also help to keep your hydration levels up. And you won’t even realise you’ve drunk so much water.

Just a few little tips to help you stay hydrated.
Good habits take a while to put in place so consider making 1 change per week until, suddenly, they are all part of your daily routine.

Introducing Myofascial Cupping into Sport and Deep Tissue Massages!

Julie, our Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage therapist is now including Myofascial Cupping into her treatments if required!

Myofascial cupping is a form of trigger point therapy and myofascial release.

The detoxifying, stimulating, and nourishing properties of myofascial cupping are found to work wonders for the treatment of scar tissue, stretch marks, and adhesions. The treatment also helps to prevent these issues and increase range of motion in burn victims.

Cupping therapy in itself improves circulation and aids in draining lymph fluid. Those who are dealing with injury or post-surgery issues can benefit from the clearing of old residue, blood, and solidified lymph. These fluids are flushed from the muscle and soft tissue through this type of therapy.

What is deep tissue Massage?

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
Pressure is deeper than a Swedish massage and concentrated on areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

How Does It Work?

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Adhesions can cause a variety of issues within the muscles including reduced circulation, pain, limited movement and inflammation.
Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

Does Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?

During the massage, most people find there is usually some discomfort. It is important to tell your therapist when things hurt and if any pain is outside your comfort range. It should not be unbearable but if there is an issue in the muscle it will be uncomfortable to release the tension.
There is usually some tenderness after a deep tissue massage, but it should subside within a day or so and you may be recommended to apply ice to the area after the massage.
